Question: In Section 202.03.01 it states to "Pick up and Dispose of milling residue outside of the Right of way per section 107.14" Is NDOT requiring the use of Pickup/Vacuum brooms behind the Milling operation? Historically the use of Kickbrooms are acceptable especially since the plans on sheet 3A is having you put the millings on the shoulder. What is the minimum and maximum depth of the "Fine Milling"? For the Ride specification it states that you must improve the it to a certain point in section 202 but in section 403 it states that the ride must be a Type A smoothness. These two specs contradict each other and may require extra grinding on the dense grade if we are held to certain standards. In addition can we get the existing IRI/MRI profiles for this section of roadway. |
Answer: This section of roadway is comprised of a Cold In place Recycle with multiple chips seals placed over the top of it. Due to the existing roadway structural section, the department is requiring corrective milling on the existing surface prior to placing the new dense grade to assist in achieving a Type A pavement smoothness as specified in Sections 402 and 403. The department also recognizes there may be more corrective grinding on the new dense grade surface to meet the ride specification, so please bid accordingly. An upcoming supplemental will provide updated language pertaining to Section 202.03.10 providing better guidance and parameters on the special milling. The language in section 202.03.10 that directs the removal of milling residue and water used in the process according to 107.14 is consistent with language in 402 for the corrective grinding and will be applied similarly. The department will also be uploading informational ride data of this roadway section. As per the specifications and special provisions, the Contractor is still responsible for gathering and supplying all ride data during the contract duration. |
