Question: 1. The Traffic Management plan requires opening all lanes of traffic during non-working hours. Prime coat is specified for use which requires 48 hours of cure before allowance for further construction as per 406.03.04 of the standard specifications. Will the prime coat be eliminated? Will the cure time be eliminated? Please reconcile and clarify. 2. The Traffic Management plan does not allow traffic on the milled surface. As such, can we assume traffic will not be allowed on the prime coated base surface? 3. Will traffic be allowed to drive on newly placed 3-inch lift of plantmix? Similarly, what is the maximum acceptable drop off? |
Answer: 1. Prime Coat Cure Time: Refer to 406.03.04 - The 48-hour cure time requirement will be removed in a forthcoming Supplemental. Prime coat cure time will be based on the manufacturer's recommendation and at the direction of the Engineer. In reviewing the literature for QPL products such as ePrime and Earthbind, the Department believes paving can occur on the same shift as the prime coat application. 2. Traffic will not be allowed on the base or prime coat surfaces at any time. 3. Place full-depth plantmix in all areas of roadway removals prior to the opening of public traffic, unless otherwise directed or approved by the Engineer. |
